In the Christian calendar, there are two seasons of exceptional activity in the history of God's story on earth. Easter celebrates the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Preceding it are two holidays: Thanksgiving and Christmas. In one month's time, we go from a national holiday: Thanksgiving to an international holiday: Christmas. Thanksgiving brings our minds to the early history of America, when the pilgrims invited the Indians to a feast, celebrating the harvest that had been gathered. It was a time to give thanks to God for His benefits and provisions. Almost four hundred years ago, in 1621, the first white settlers sought to honor the God they served with an outpouring of gratefulness.
Christmas has always honored the miraculous birth of the infant Messiah, Jesus/Jeshua who came to a dark, dead and lost planet for the sole purpose of salvation from sin, and the reconciliation of God with humanity. For this primary cause we bring forth a celebration honoring what God accomplished through Jesus Christ. Both Thanksgiving and Christmas are brought together for the purpose of bringing joy to the heavenly Father. We would be wise to offer our thanks and praise to God for what He has done: Tis the Season to be Jolly!
